7 – 30 April 2006
Joburg figure and multi talented artist Karl Gietl embarks on a colourful Search for Paradise in the streets of the African global village and he is not in a hurry to reach his destination. He takes us on the road to perdition and explores the sinful corners of human psyche, lit only with red lights and inhabited by city mythologies and lurid encounters.
Karl Gietl is first of all a powerful painter, traditional yet inventive. In an organic balance of ability and boldness, he captures the human situations and appropriates the space, whether it is in Jozi, in Maputo or in Paris and Amsterdam. He is a disciplined and gifted storyteller celebrating life with humour.
